Interview: Denis Makrushin discusses the threats of the connected home

Denis Makrushin is a threat expert with the Global Research and Analysis Team at Kaspersky Lab focused on ‘smart’ things research and targeted attacks mitigation technologies. He is a permanent speaker at international security conferences (such as Defcon, Security Analyst Summit, CARO etc.)

Denis has gained diverse experience while working in the cyber security area. From the offensive security standpoint he’s been engaged in penetration testing and security audits of corporate infrastructure, stress testing information and banking systems for DDoS-attack resilience, and he took part in the organisation and holding of an international forum on practical security issues. He took time to look at the industry from the defence side perspective and built information security processes for critical infrastructure.

He graduated from the Information Security Faculty of the National Research Nuclear University MEPhI (Moscow Engineering Physics Institute). At this time he is continuing his research project ‘Targeted Attack Detection Based on Game Theory Methods’ in the graduate school of MEPhI.

In the interview below, Makrushin discusses Ubisoft’s latest hacker-themed title Watch Dogs 2 as well as the threats of the connected home. Makrushin also discusses ransomware and how Kaspersky Lab is tackling these challenges. The video can be found below.
