What’s it about: Members of the mysterious and spooky Addams family — Gomez, Morticia, Pugsley, Wednesday, Uncle Fester and Grandma — are readily preparing for a visit from their even creepier relatives. But trouble soon arises when shady TV personality Margaux Needler realizes that the Addams’ eerie hilltop mansion is standing in the way of her dream to sell all the houses in the neighbourhood.

The crit:
I have been a long-time fan of The Addams Family, I enjoyed the movies as well as the cartoons that came out… yes, I’m that old. However, when I saw that The Addams Family was receiving an animated movie release instead of a live-action release, I was a bit concerned.

My concern came in as I thought the original weirdness and kookiness that I loved so much was going to be toned down for the younger audience. Thankfully, when I sat down to watch the film, this was not the case

Popcorn and M&M’s in hand, I was treated to a film that was not only well-made, but also included most of the original charm featured by its predecessors. When I say most, I mean that yes it was toned down a bit from the original creepiness; however, it still appealed to me as well as the younger audience in attendance. Now, I would not take my toddler to watch this film; however, my eldest daughter would absolutely love it.

To add to the appeal, the animation and visuals were superb making the film an eye-popping chunk of nostalgia. While the visuals were superb, the film also featured an amazing voice cast that includes the talents of Charlize Theron as Morticia, Oscar Isaac as Gomez, Chloe Grace Moretz as Wednesday and Finn Wolfhard as Pugsley. As expected, the cast played out their roles in a superb fashion, which made the overall film well-worth watching.

In conclusion, if you are looking for something a little creepy with a dash of kooky, then The Addams Family is the film to watch… Just be sure to leave the younger kids at home.
