Synology has supplied us with the Diskstation DS1019+ for review, and all I can say is it is fantastic. The latest NAS device from the firm comes with some pretty amazing specs.

The Synology Diskstation DS1019+ comes standard with 5 bays that can handle up to an amazing 70TB of storage space. Included in the impressive specs is the fact that the Synology Diskstation DS1019+ comes with a lot of power under the hood. This includes a quad-core 1.5Ghz Intel processor, which comes accompanied by 4GB of DDR3 memory; however, up to 8GB is supported.

When taking a closer look at the Synology Diskstation DS1019+, you will find that it comes with a USB 3.0 port on the front. When looking at the rear you will find two Gigabit Ethernet, a second USB 3.0, and eSATA ports. These are joined by the power input and a Kensington security lock.

With some powerful tech under the hood, the Synology Diskstation DS1019+ is equipped with enough power to run 4K content via a Plex Media Server. As an example of this, we hooked up the Synology Diskstation DS1019+ to our network, which is connected to a 4k compatible LG TV. The end result was a smooth-running 4K steam that provided crystal clear images and no buffering whatsoever.

Adding to the appeal, the Synology Diskstation DS1019+ also has a multitude of apps that can be used with the device. This includes file-sharing apps, Usenet download, web applications, download systems, and security centres. In addition to these, apart from Plex, the Video Station and Audio Station are also available for those who wish to leverage the 2 channels of H.264/H.265 4K videos. There are also a plethora of apps that you can download in order to stream directly to your phone… now ain’t that handy?

While the Synology Diskstation DS1019+ might seem like a technical device to set up, Synology has made it fairly easy and straight forward to set up. If you have never used a Synology NAS before, it comes equipped with an incredible Diskstation Manager OS, which essentially feels like a fully-fledged PC OS, which ultimately makes connecting devices and managing files rather simple and straight forward.

As the Synology Diskstation DS1019+ is a powerhouse, you may think that it is a fairly loud device… Well, from what we have experienced, this is not the case at all. Keeping the Synology Diskstation DS1019+ running cool is two 92mm fans that not only keep this device cool but also quiet. In addition to this, power consumption is also really light with power consumption coming in at around 39W.

Apart from apps and power, the Synology Diskstation DS1019+ is a great looking device. We found that it integrated rather nicely with our entertainment centre. It also saves space as it comes in at 166 mm x 230 mm x 223 mm. Portability is also great as it only weighs 2.54kg.

While we have focused more on its streaming capabilities, the Synology Diskstation DS1019+ is also perfect for small businesses that are looking for an all-in-one and easy-to-use backup solution.

Conclusion:
Whether you are running a small office or just looking for a home entertainment centre, the Synology Diskstation DS1019+ is a great solution. Granted, it does come with a bit of heavy price tag, but it’s an exceptional piece of technology that is well worth its weight in gold.
