It’s time to check out some of the top movies you should be watching at Ster-Kinekor or Nu Metro theatres nationwide. To make life easier, Tech IT Out has come up with a list of the top movies you should be watching.

Be sure to grab some popcorn and an ice-cold Slush Puppy and check out the following movies while they are still showing at your local cinema.

Please note, we only cover films we have seen and can recommend.

Avengers: Endgame
Adrift in space with no food or water, Tony Stark sends a message to Pepper Potts as his oxygen supply starts to dwindle. Meanwhile, the remaining Avengers – Thor, Black Widow, Captain America and Bruce Banner – must figure out a way to bring back their vanquished allies for an epic showdown with Thanos — the evil demigod who decimated the planet and the universe.

If you have not seen it already, Avengers: Endgame is the ultimate movie right now. With stellar performances all- around, stunning visual effects, and an amazing musical score, Avengers: Endgame is 2019’s most must-see movie.

Captain Marvel
Captain Marvel (Brie Larson) is an extraterrestrial Kree warrior who finds herself caught in the middle of an intergalactic battle between her people and the Skrulls. Living on Earth in 1995, she keeps having recurring memories of another life as U.S. Air Force pilot Carol Danvers. With help from Nick Fury (Samuel L Jackson), Captain Marvel tries to uncover the secrets of her past while harnessing her special superpowers to end the war with the evil Skrulls.

Captain Marvel is yet another exceptional Marvel film. The film covers the origins of both Captain Marvel as well as Nick Fury rather well, which establishes a fantastic setup for the upcoming Avengers: End Game. To add to this, Larson and Jackson have some great chemistry onscreen – which allows both characters to deliver both comical and serious moments flawlessly.

We all have a superhero inside us, it just takes a bit of magic to bring it out.  In Billy Batson’s (Angel) case, by shouting out one word—SHAZAM!—this streetwise 14-year-old foster kid can turn into the adult Super Hero Shazam (Levi), courtesy of an ancient wizard. Still a kid at heart—inside a ripped, godlike body—Shazam revels in this adult version of himself by doing what any teen would do with superpowers: have fun with them!

Can he fly? Does he have X-ray vision? Can he shoot lightning out of his hands? Can he skip his social studies test? Shazam sets out to test the limits of his abilities with the joyful recklessness of a child. But he’ll need to master these powers quickly in order to fight the deadly forces of evil controlled by Dr. Thaddeus Sivana (Strong).

Shazam is a great addition to the DC film lineup. While still dark and brooding in certain areas, Shazam does bring some colour and comedic antics to the DC Universe. To add to this, it is a hell of a lot of fun to watch… Definitely, a must watch for any DC fan.

Pet Semetary 2019
Dr. Louis Creed (Jason Clarke) and his wife, Rachel (Amy Seimetz), relocate from Boston to rural Maine with their two young children. The couple soon discovers a mysterious burial ground hidden deep in the woods near their new home. When tragedy strikes, Louis turns to his neighbour Jud Crandall, setting off a perilous chain reaction that unleashes an unspeakable evil with horrific consequences.

Pet Sematary 2019 pays great homage to the original film. While some elements of the film changed along with key plot points, Pet Semetary 2019 is a worthwhile watch for those who watched the original 1989 classic. Overall, horror fans will not be disappointed in the Pet Sematary remake. The movie’s twists were a great surprise and the cast put on a stellar performance.

Us is a 2019 American horror film written and directed by Jordan Peele. Accompanied by her husband, son and daughter, Adelaide Wilson (Lupita Nyong’o) returns to the beachfront home where she grew up as a child.

Haunted by a traumatic experience from the past, Adelaide grows increasingly concerned that something bad is going to happen. Her worst fears soon become a reality when four masked strangers descend upon the house, forcing the Wilsons into a fight for survival. When the masks come off, the family is horrified to learn that they are facing their very own doppelgängers.

The horror/thriller genre has become slightly stale of late with a number of mediocre releases hitting the big screen… This is not the case when it comes to Jordan Peele’s Us, which is a refreshing take on the genre. Much like Peele’s Academy Award-winning film, Get Out, Us shows us that the horror/thriller genre is more than cheap jump scares and crazy special effects.

The Curse of La Llorona
La Llorona.  The Weeping Woman.  A horrifying apparition, caught between Heaven and Hell, trapped in a terrible fate sealed by her own hand. The mere mention of her name has struck terror around the world for generations.

In life, she drowned her children in a jealous rage, throwing herself in the churning river after them as she wept in pain.

Now her tears are eternal.  They are lethal, and those who hear her death call in the night are doomed.  La Llorona creeps in the shadows and preys on the children, desperate to replace her own.  As the centuries have passed, her desire has grown more voracious…and her methods more terrifying.

In 1970s Los Angeles, La Llorona is stalking the night—and the children. Ignoring the eerie warning of a troubled mother suspected of child endangerment, a social worker and her own small kids are soon drawn into a frightening supernatural realm.  Their only hope to survive La Llorona’s deadly wrath may be a disillusioned priest and the mysticism he practices to keep evil at bay, on the fringes where fear and faith collide.

There are plenty of jump scares to be had here. So be sure to hold onto your popcorn… Maybe bring a friend too… just saying.

The Hustle
In the hilarious new comedy The Hustle, Anne Hathaway and Rebel Wilson star as female scam artists, one low rent and the other high class, who team up to take down the dirty rotten men who have wronged them.

It’s cheesy and fun with a hint of class. The Hustle is the perfect film for a girls night out or a few laughs with your partner of choice.
