Passed up for a well-deserved promotion, sports agent Ali Davis (Taraji P. Henson) wonders what else she needs to do to succeed in a man’s world. Hoping to find answers from a psychic, Ali is persuaded to drink an abnormal concoction, which ultimately gives her the ability to hear what the men around her are thinking.

While Ali rejects the ability at first, she begins to use it to turn the tables on her obnoxious male colleagues while racing to sign the next basketball superstar. Along the way, she also tries to juggle a rather complicated relationship with prospective boyfriend Will (Aldis Hodge) as well as deal with the needs of her assistant Brandon Wallace (Josh Brener).

The Crit:
While I generally prefer watching horror, sci-fi, and fantasy films, I found What Men Want to be a surprisingly good film. It’s a film that opened me up to a new genre that I found I actually quite enjoyed. Granted, it has a bit of a supernatural twist to it; however, it’s all-star cast put on a great performance, overall.

The on and off again on-screen relationship between Taraji P. Henson and Aldis Hodge makes for a great love story that has its own ups and downs and really keeps the viewer engaged. To add to the appeal, the supernatural abilities that the lead character possesses adds some truly comical moments. There are some powerful moments on offer here too as well as a few tear-jerking scenes.

Conclusion:
What Men Want is not a film I originally thought I would watch; however, my opinion has since changed since seeing it. Not only is there a decent storyline here, but there are some genuinely comedic moments that had me laughing hysterically. There were also moments where I felt I could not hold back the tears; however, I managed to do so as no one wants to see a man ugly cry in a cinema.

Overall, if you are looking for a couples night out film, or you are just looking for a decent comedy to watch, then What Men Want is for you.
