Mortal Kombat 11: What we know so far

Mortal Kombat 11

The team at NetherRealm Studios along with co-creator ED Boon have revealed new details on Mortal Kombat 11. The details emerged at a live event held in Los Angeles, which offered fans a first look at gameplay from the latest title in the Mortal Kombat franchise.

The event revealed that Mortal Kombat 11 will feature new and returning characters. To add to this, it was revealed that the fighting system will also come with new changes and features.

At the event, it was revealed that the likes of Sub-Zero, Scorpion, Raiden, and Sonya Blade (who is voiced by Ronda Rousey) will indeed be making a return. It was also revealed that fan favourites such as Baraka and Skarlet will also be making a return this time around as they skipped the last installment of the game.

New Characters

Taking a look at the roster, it was also revealed that two new characters are on the way. These characters include the likes of Geras and Kronika.

As stated by Boon, Geras will fight using “time-control abilities.” As revealed in the gameplay videos, Geras is able to summon various objects that are made of stone and sand. To add to his impressive arsenal of attacks, he can also stop and rewind time and hold enemies in place for a brutal beatdown

Check out some gameplay from Geras below:

From what we can see, Mortal Kombat 11 is going to be more over-the-top than ever before. Moving on to Kronika… She was first teased in the first Mortal Kombat 11 trailer, which dropped back in December 2018. Ed boon reveals that Kronika has been “running the show since the first Mortal Kombat,” however, due to Raiden killing Shinnok in Mortal Kombat X she is now forced to step in and intervene. The reveal did not confirm her as a playable character, but she is rumoured to be the boss of the game.

Speaking of playable characters, it looks as though there will be 25 of them. Shao Kahn will also be playable; however, you will need to pre-order to get your hands on him.

From the looks of the reveal, characters will also be customisable. This includes the options to customise gear when going into a fight. This would include weapons, masks, abilities, and cosmetic items.

Taking a closer look at combat, Mortal Kombat 11 will come with a few interesting features. This will include Fatal Blows. Fatal Blows can be used when the players health reaches below 30 percent and allows the player to unleash a brutal x-ray styled attack in order to level the playing field.

The developers have also included another mechanic called Flawless Block. If a player blocks an attack with perfect timing, they will have a window to counterattack. This will help prevent players from spamming moves in order to dominate their opponent.

As far as the story goes, the game is set directly after the events of Mortal Kombat 11 and involves Raiden upsetting the balance of history with the death of Shinnok. Tired of Earthrealm’s defiance, Kronika, The Keeper of Time will bring order to the universe through any means necessary.

The Kollector’s edition looks insane:

I have never been one for pushing pre-orders of games; however, the Kollector’s edition of Mortal Kombat 11 looks insane. The biggest draw to the Kollector’s Edition of Mortal Kombat 11 is the package’s exclusive Scorpion mask. It’s reportedly a 1:1 life-size replica of one of the masks featured in the game.

New details should be surfacing on January 30, 2019 during NeatherRealm’s Kombat Kast.

Mortal Kombat 11 is coming to Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, Windows PC, and Xbox One on April 23.
