The Amazon Web Services Summit (AWS Summit) is set to kick off on the 5th of July 2017in Cape Town, South Africa at the Century City Conference Centre and is an event that is not to be missed. This year, attendees will have the opportunity to attend 4 Tracks that consist of 16 Sessions that cover a variety of topics. In addition to these riveting and informative sessions, there will also be a plethora of top-tier speakers at the summit. These speakers include: Chris Shortt (GM Information Technology, Pick n Pay), David de Villiers (CEO Zapper), Mike Needham (Sr Mgr, Solutions Architecture, AWS) as well as special guest speaker Patricia de Lille (Executive Mayor of Cape Town).

Additionally, the following speakers will also be discussing vital topics at the AWS Summit:

Werner Vogels (CTO Amazon)
Dr. Werner Vogels is Chief Technology Officer at Amazon.com where he is responsible for driving the company’s technology vision, which is to continuously enhance the innovation on behalf of Amazon’s customers at a global scale.

Prior to joining Amazon, he worked as a researcher at Cornell University where he was a principal investigator in several research projects that targeted the scalability and robustness of mission-critical enterprise computing systems. He has held the positions of Research Engineer, VP of Technology and CTO in companies that handle the transition of academic technology into industry.

Vogels holds a Ph.D. from the Vrije Universiteit in Amsterdam and has authored many articles for journals and conferences, most of them on distributed systems technologies for enterprise computing.

Michael Needham, Solution Architecture Sr. Manager, AWS
Michael manages Solution Architecture teams spanning the Middle East and Africa.

Michael and his team work directly with customers to successfully architect and run their applications at scale in the Amazon Web Services cloud, through best practices and lowering cost.

Michael has spent 19 years in IT, holds a degree in computer science and has registered two cloud patents while at AWS.

Apart from these top sessions, AWS and Intel will be hosting the 5th AWS IoT Hackathon, which will be running in parallel with the main AWS Summit Agenda.  It’s a great opportunity to discover some cutting-edge AWS services coupled with hardware platforms.
