How modern smartphones are reinventing the way we work

The word smartphone just doesn’t seem to cut it anymore, does it? In fact, it’s been literally decades since making phone calls was a mobile phone’s primary function. The explosive growth of the Internet of Things and the increased pace of our everyday lives means that smartphones are an increasingly essential business tool, no matter what industry you’re in.

From simple scheduling and on-the-go emailing to cloud-based collaboration tools and a myriad of work-based apps at our fingertips, our smartphones are fast becoming our new offices. LG’s recently release LG V20 is a perfect example. Blending top-of-the-line media recording technologies, as well as a Capture Plus (which lets users scribble over screenshots with nothing but a fingertip), it’s perfect for creatives. And with a full Microsoft Office system built in, email, Word, Excel, PowerPoint and many other working tools are available anytime, anywhere.

Here are just a few of the ways that today’s smartphones are enabling the workspaces of the future, in which employees are mobile, always connected, and far more efficient.

Working on the go. Those who travel a lot for work will know how much time is spent waiting in reception areas, in coffee shops and on work sites. 20 minutes here, an hour there, it all adds up to lost productivity and hours of wasted time. A work-friendly mobile device changes all of that. Smartphones like the LG V20 let you make the most of this time by catching up on emails, working on that new project or editing documents.

Getting paid. Many small businesses today are opting for new and innovative products to help them accept payments more affordably and easily. A reliable smartphone is a must for accepting quick transfers and credit card payments, making use of the wide selection of payment processing apps available today, like Zapper and SnapScan.

Collaborating with colleagues. Faster communication and improved workflows, combined with the ability to co-author and edit documents remotely, make smartphones one of the greatest collaboration-enablers today. From simple instant chat programmes, like WhatsApp to advanced business collaboration tools like SharePoint, forward thinking organisations are making use of mobile technology to save time and money, increase collaboration between employees, and drive greater productivity.

Most smartphone owners today will agree that it’s more than just a device – it’s a part of who we are. We rely on our smartphones to put us in touch with one another, provide quick access to information, and coordinate our lives day by day. Wouldn’t it be great if this convenience extended to our work lives, too?

If you’ve got a work-minded device armed with all the necessary tools, you can work from anywhere, and watch your productivity soar. Do you use your smartphone for more than personal communication? Let us know in the comments section.
